We made one of these!
Used a different technique for the handle (laser cut wood wrapped with leather). It’s super sturdy. Now we have to decide what to engrave in the leather… One person suggested a plaid pattern, which could be cool:

what weight leather are you cutting? (my 40watt laser has always had issues cutting leather… engraving, no problem, but cutting ugh! its always been a major pain).
The secret is actually the finish, not the thickness. Vegetable tanned leather cuts beautifully at almost any weight, whereas leather that has tons of oils etc in it won’t cut with 80W+.
