1/16" Acrylic inlay in 1/4" Alder

Today I did an art project with my daughter’s preschool class. I had them draw their names on a white card with a black sharpie. Then I scanned the image, prepped, and traced it. I did an engrave into goofgrade alderwood, then cut the exact same design out of acrylic. Hybrid superglue gel to hold it in, press fit.

There’s some dimpling in the R’s because the cut did outside-in. Not sure how to fix. Aside from that I’m pretty pleased with the result and I hope the kids like their name plates.

Here’s the first one:

LOL - was that a typo, or is it a new slang term? Either way, it made me laugh

I take a commodity wood plank and stick low-tack laser compatible mask on both sides. This goofgrade 4"x12" plank cost less than $4. Cuts and engraves with proofgrade poplar settings.

From now on when someone asks me to describe myself, I’m gonna say I’m goofgrade.

No doubt about it! If it’s not proofgrade…
