I was having a hard time finding side by side photos of engraving done on the different proofgrade woods, so I made one. 
Left to right are maple, cherry, and walnut.

Well now dangit, I thought maple was my favorite for engraving but I’m really liking the other two as well…
Yeah, I had thought things might not show up as well on the dark walnut, but it’s actually really nice. And I LOVE how the living hinge looks in walnut!
The Cherry seems like a beautiful middle ground…
It is. They’re all really nice. I kinda want to make something that incorporates all of them, now. 
Add some acrylic too. You can’t go wrong with a bit more acrylic!

Thanks! The box is a modification of this pattern. I added the little swirly thingy, but otherwise the living hinge is exactly as in the original.
