A gift box

Nothing too new but I thought it turned out nicely.

1/8” cherry hardwood

1/8” cherry hardwood, headliner foam, aluminum gift

1/8” cherry hardwood

Side note: I didn’t engrave the aluminum gift, it was purchased pre-engraved.

A wonderful gift box. (I like the turtle, too!) Plus it has left me wondering if the gift is a coffee distributor?

Lovely box! The cherry took the engraving beautifully. What did you use to line the lid?

I like the accent tabs. Can’t quite figure out how you got the two shades if it’s all cherry!

Two different boards.

Unfortunately two different thicknesses too, which increased the required sanding. It all worked out, just cost 20 minutes of my time.

Beautiful gift box! I really like the design. And the added liner makes it very classy.

Nice choice of woods and the wood working looks perfect. The joints on the box are perfect.

Excellent. Lid liner is a nice touch.

The foam is there to pad the inner gift. It has just enough give and just enough firmness to hold it in place and prevent rattling. (There’s a layer on the interior bottom too.)

Headliner does always makes a box look more finished but that’s a side effect in this case.

If I’d wanted a liner for decorative purposes I’d likely have used leather. I recently hit a leather shop that was moving locations and was selling scraps and sides for huge discount. Here’s my pile of scraps, cost about $6:

Everything from beautiful smooth rich brown leather to bright purple suede. Begging to be made into liners and whatnot.

The scraps box is often my favourite place. Anything under about 3’sq is considered scrap and do you know how many cool things I can make with that?!?

My favourite was hitting a high end furniture store to just look around, and then had a pile of beautiful leather that they had no use for. Didn’t buy a couch, came home victorious anyway!
