A happy mistake

I wanted to engrave this yesterday, so I did all the prep work, uploaded the image and hit print. I thought I had 1/4 maple in the GF, but when it was done and I took the piece out, I realized I still had mat board in there. The engrave still came out great. This was a STL file converted to PNG

I think this is better than if you had used wood. I’m always trying to “read” the wood grain and find it can be a distraction to the artwork (details in the art interacting with details in the grain). When the page loaded up your graphic, the image practically popped off the screen.

Really, really nice!

Nice to have a happy mistake now and then. It makes all the rotten ones worth it.

I think it turned out great! The mat board gave it great definition and depth, especially the background hills.

It’s stunning!

Curious about the software you used for the conversion. Mesh lab?

Thanks. I haven’t been able to get Meshlab to work for me. I did this in Rhino 3D
