A tribute box engraved

So the buddy of mine that does familial interviews with older generations for video on usb drives, who has me engrave them, had a slightly different job for me this time.

He got a small black walnut box and wanted a reverse engraving of a Calvary rider on it. A buddy of his father in law passed and he managed to snag one of the shell casings from military salute. The shell will go in the box and the Calvaryman was the business logo for a joint venture the two men had shared years ago.

I seem to be pretty bad at getting the appropriate pictures of the afterwards but I like to do Timelapse of at least the laser process.

Had to pull the tiny hinge screws and then prop it but the walnut pg settings worked fine. Isopropyl wiped the schmootz from the top and gave it to them this morning.

The finish of the calvaryman was subtle to the relief vs the background burned away but they liked the subtlety of it so all good.

That turned out really nice!

That’s nice that he could reach out to you for something personal to him after spending so much time preserving memories for others.

I had a similar issue with a carving being very subtle. I ended up flooding the engrave with some black ink - but mine wasn’t a large area like yours. I imagine the subtly in this one is part of what makes it beautiful.

I’m sure he appreciated your work on this. Friends and family is why we even have a Glowforge.
