Abalone Inlay Sheets for lasering!

Aloha. For several years, my husband and I have been creating these beautiful Abalone inlay earrings, using a specialized Abalone product that is manufactured here in Hawaii and primarily used in the fishing industry. These Abalone inlay earrings have long been the mainstay of our small lasering business here on the Big Island. Over the years, many people in the lasering community (quite a few in this very forum in fact) have asked us about the process and products we use, and it’s always been in the backs of our minds to work with the manufacturers of these Abalone sheets to create an avenue for laser peeps like ourselves to directly access this game-changing tool. I’m very excited to let you know that we’ve finally done that. Over the years, we’ve built a great relationship with the company making these sheets, and together we’ve created a website specifically for laser crafters to access this material. If you’d like to check it out, I’m going to put a couple of free earring files in the free files section, where I’ll also include the link to the website (pretty sure I’m not supposed to post links here, but hopefully no one will bother me in the free files section). Mahalo nui!

Well, I guess I’m running afoul of the rules, as someone has removed the free files I added to the free files section. If anyone’s interested in exploring this cool Abalone product, I guess message me?

The colors of the abalone and wood combinations are beautiful. All are very unique and great looking.

I would be interested in your supplier!

You always make the most beautiful artwork.

You can definitely put links in your profile. Your earrings are gorgeous! Is there something about these sheets that make them different from the other commercially available abalone sheets? They certainly have a wide variety of color!

Your earrings are beautiful! And the colors of those sheets - wow!

She talked about her suppliers a couple of years ago here:

If you’re trying to get to the bottom as to exactly where they come from: Mudhole, in turn, probably sources them from overseas. Their product line looks like several listings that I’ve seen on AliExpress.

Huh?? That makes no sense! You can respond to the take down notice asking for clarification and hopefully get it reinstated. I saw nothing amiss with it :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Mudhole sources them from the same people we are getting them from. They are a lovely couple on Maui, here in Hawaii. Their company is called Aqua Blue Maui. We are trying to help them reach a wider audience by sharing this product with the lasering community.

It’s all good, I’m sure it was because I put the link in the description.

The variety of colors and types of shell patterns available is incredible. Currently I only have 16 variations available on the website, but if I can get people interested in this product, I would love to expand the color and type options even further.

It’s neat to see someone producing shell veneer in the U.S. All of what I have found online in non-commercial quantities comes from places like New Zealand (e.g, Luméa and people reselling their stuff), and there have been supply issues recently.

The couple who are producing/manufacturing these sheets are on Maui, but I believe the shell itself comes from New Zealand. As far as I understand, wild Abalone is endangered, but farmed Abalone is considered a renewable resource. They are super nice people, we have been using their product for years.

These are great! What model GF and settings do you use for cutting these sheets?

I would love the files! Your products are beautiful.

I have bought a sheet of abalone and haven’t had a chance to use it. I missed where we can order from the seller from whom you buy. Did you post it somewhere?

You misunderstand, she came to talk about the website she created to resell the product. The other thread was probably flagged by members of the community for being an advertisement and removed automatically.

There is a fine line as to what level of self promotion is acceptable; it is refreshingly rare to see spam here. That’s no accident and is all down to the community members — if enough people believe a post crosses that line and flag it, the post is automatically hidden.

The same goes for any other unacceptable behavior as loosely defined in the forum policy guideline here:

Welcome to the forum.

I don’t believe this post is about files for sale or for free. The OP was introducing laserable abalone shell sheets. You can see all of the beautiful things this user makes by visiting their Etsy page. Click on their user name to reveal their Etsy shop in their profile
