My Glowforge, for months, maybe even the past year, always has the “air assist fan not running at correct speed”, and happens about 3-10 times until I can get it to work. I play with it, pull off the laser head etc and then it works.
I’m on the 50th try today and it’s not working. I have also fully cleaned my machine, unplugged and replugged in EVERY connector and the fan IS spinning, but suposedly not correctly.
And yeah, I emailed support, but the last time I emailed them about this it took them THREE weeks to get back to me and then never answere after my response photos…
I assume that you remove the fan hood and clean all sides of the fan blades and all around the inside of the fan housing. Have you also wiped all of the contact points on the printhead? You might consider buying a replacement fan from someone on Etsy or Wiregrass Made.
So I did, cleaned, unconnected, reconnected – the fan DOES run though, that’s why I think it’s possibly not the fan and maybe a trip up in a safety system.
To be clear, those closeup photos are not of the air assist fan!
The fan you need to clean is the one on the backside of the board - it’s about 1.25" across. There is also a chute on the underside that needs to be cleaned (shove a pipe cleaner or qtip through it).
*Also, if you’re using magnets to hold down your materials that can cause the fan to slow down. You’ll want to put metal over them so that their magnetic field can’t reach the fan.
As one who discovered the problem with magnets by using them, it is possiblefor the metal to crack inside the ribbons and randomly connect or not and go from mostly connecting to mostly not over time.
