Air assist fan belt issue

Hello, I had my masking flare and start a fire. I caught it right away and stopped the job, put out fire. I decided that I would clean machine. As I was working on the cleaning the air assist fan, I noticed my belt was frayed. It appears to have gotten burned. I’m not sure on the longevity of it now need to order a new air assist fan or at least the belt. The wheels appear ok. I haven’t put it back together to try it. I can’t seem to find on the site where to order spear parts. Can someone help me? Thanks so much

https://shop.glowforge.com/collections/spare-parts but belts aren’t available there. Posting here has opened a ticket with the staff - so they’ll get you hooked up with the belts you need.

If you can post a photo of the frayed belt that would speed things up once they get here.

Thank you for your help. Not sure how to add a picture to my original post. So I will include it here.

Plus my spacer piece cracked. I superglued it but not sure how long it will last.

Not sure what a “spacer piece” is but if you mean that part in the pic to the left of the carriage plate, that is the idler pulley and it should not be separate from the bearing, so that whole piece will have to be replaced as well.

It’s hard to tell from the low quality pic, but the left rear wheel on the carriage plate also appears to be damaged.

None of those are standard replacement parts, so you are likely looking at it taking quite some time to get these replaced.

The wheel does look like it should eventually be replaced, but I would reinstall the carriage plate and confirm smooth left-right travel. If the plate glides smoothly along the gantry rails then you should be able to continue using it with the wheel and replace it later.

The idler pulley can be glued for a temporary fix, allowing you to continue using your Glowforge until replacements can be purchased and delivered, but should ultimately be replaced as well.

Replacement belts can be sourced online, but I strongly recommend using an exact OEM replacement. The belt is manufactured by Gates, others have used off-braand replacements which and readily available but I’ve read a bunch of reviews indicating poor tracking and belts falling off because they weren’t cut with the proper alignment. The Gates belts are subject to minimum order quantities from most suppliers, but I have stock of the belt material and can provide it to you if you need to get your Glowforge running now. Message me if you are interested.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and comments. We have found the belt at Gates. And you’re right there is a minimum to buy. I would love to take you up on your offer to purchase the belt from you. I take it that it is not difficult to install?

I see you already emailed us about this and we’re working on it there, so I’m going to close this topic.
