Alignment Off after Moving Crumb Tray

We recently calibrated our machine and it appeared to be fine. Our items are still about 1/2" off (cutting higher than the actual scanned image shows). See the Gift of Good Measure we just did.

Would removing and re-inserting the crumb tray cause the alignment to be off this badly? The first thing we etched this morning seemed to have good placement but the last 3 items (since we’ve moved the crumb tray) are all very badly off. Would the crumb tray be the cause and do we really have to recalibrate every time we move it?

Any chance you bumped the head when you moved the tray? Have you power cycled the machine since then?

Just to be explicit:

It shouldn’t.

You should not have to recalibrate every time you remove or reinsert the crumb tray.

I believe you may have inserted the tray incorrectly - make sure it sits firmly in the slots - or you bumped the head while the machine was on.

And make sure there isn’t a bit of stray material in one of the divots that hold the crumb tray. A little bit of stuff can result in pretty big height error which translates to the result you got.

Thanks @everyone for the great advice.

Did the advice posted here provide help to resolve your alignment issues?

Thank you for all of the suggestions. We powered down the machine and it seemed to have corrected the issue with more of about a 16th inch variance versus the full inch we saw before. Still not 100% dead on but close enough I assume. Thank you for all of the input! We are finding that this machine requires a whole lot of trial and error.

I’m glad you were able to get the alignment figured out. I’m going to close this thread now. If you have any other issues please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at support@glowforge.com or start a new thread. We’re always here to help and as you can see so is our amazing community.

Happy Printing!
