You won’t hurt anything using this item, but I don’t think it will engrave or cut.

This video was provided by a supplier I favor (https://gs2awards.com/) that recently began selling Trotec lasers. The video is 2 years old, so some of you may have already seen it. I have not use that specific product, but the foil I have on rolls and cheese does not cut on my glowforge.

That’s why I have a cricut vinyl cutter.

Yes, that should work just fine as a backer for inlay.
