Anodized aluminum revisited

I’m going to a craft retreat soon. I like to take a small gift for the other participants when I go.

I found some black candle tins online ($17/24) and engraved the lids with my Pro using the Silver MacBook Pro setting. I did not mask the lid.

I used the Insert Text option to create my sentiment.

Looks great! I am working on something for an upcoming craft retreat as well, love being able to give people things that don’t expect it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Did you wipe it down after?

I did!

Here it is prior to wiping it.

This was $17 for 24 of these tins? Do they already have wax and stuff in them, like are they candles? If so do you have a product link for it?

They are empty tins.

I did some Altoid style black tins last year for Christmas gifts. They worked great, just like this, but after the engrave, it still appeared to be almost entirely black…maybe a slight change in color where the laser hit. But upon wiping them down with just a piece of cloth, the engrave appeared perfect.
Apparently, the black coating just liquified during the engrave and wiped away clean.

Neat idea! Do you fill the tins with treats?

I was short on time so all input in each tin was a “crystal” head pin. Perfect for putting in a squeeze bottle of glue.

I was lazy and cheap this year. They contained a few clear acrylic snowflake ornaments and those mini candy canes in side.

I’m curious about the craft retreat. Do you have a link?

I’m on a couple of Facebook groups for scrapbooking. This link comes up a lot:

Don’t let the term “scrapbooking” turn you away, people just bring whatever they want to work on. Quilting, sewing, scrapbooking, model building, bead work…

Personally I prefer 1) a weekend two or three night retreat with a minimum of a 6 foot table to work on, and 2) a retreat in a house vs a hotel. The cost is usually lower even though generally each person has to bring a meal for the group. And you will potentially be sharing a room with a stranger or two. I’ve been to large retreats with 50+ people but it’s harder to make friends, which is my goal, being new to North Carolina.

Thank you so much for the quick response and details…i love the visual of different kinds of crafters sitting around a table making their thing and being in community. And definitely, your redefine of scrapbooking was super helpful!!!
Happy crafting!!!
