Anyone here from South Florida?

I am a newbie but would love to talk to some local South Florida people. Maybe an interest group? We are very short on makerspace type place and particularly now with Covid it is nonexistent. Feel free to respond and maybe we can share some local sources or something.

I am in Tampa with similar issues. I believe there are several in the Miami area.

I’m in Miami, feel free to private message me. I will gladly help you get up and running.

Have you worked through the tutorials?

Yes and I’m doing pretty well. Thanks so much for responding. I have illustrator and I am going to do my best to learn it! If you have any local sources for materials I would be very appreciative if you could share their names. It seems like everything has to be ordered online since we don’t seem to have any of these specialty lumberyards.

For acrylic in Miami Gardens you can try

https://www.acmeplastics.com/

And for specialty plywood

For plywood not many local sources, but online you can try:

Welcome. Maybe someday we’ll have enough for our own group. Florida has challenges that other states don’t have. No specialty lumber yards

Another chain to check out is https://www.woodworkerssource.com/. It’s online in Florida. But there is a Rockler in altamonte springs Florida. Another good source.

Intercity Lumber, Tampa, is a traditional specialty lumber store with a full service mill. They can order anything and stock a wide variety of hardwoods and specialty plywood. Even if you don’t have access to wood shop tools, the mill can cut and plane to spec for reasonable prices. If you are looking for some cherry veneer or walnut to etch this is a good place to look.
