Bare Copper Blank Circuit Boards

Does anyone know if this laser could engrave bare copper blank circuit boards?

Thanks,

James

I don’t think that you will be able to etch copper, but I have not tried it before so I can’t say that definitively. However, you could put a mask on the copper (kapton might work) and etch a negative image out, then you could use a chemical etch. Hopefully this helps!

you can use it as part of the etching process as seen here. but you are better of with a CNC Router from what i understand as paint quality and thickness can affect the end result.

see http://hackaday.com/2008/08/03/laser-etching-printed-circuit-boards/

I do have a CNC Router but thought I’d ask. It would be nice to not have to worry about high/low areas on account of hot having my Shapeoko perfectly level from front to back. :unamused:

I like the idea of using a mask on the PCB and using the laser to remove a negative of the circuit!

Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out!
