I was at a mall this weekend and saw a booth with wooden phone cases with laser engraved designs on them. They appeared to simply be a flat piece of wood adhered to a plastic base (i.e. the part that clips onto the phone). I thought this would be a great workshop for our makerspace to show off the GF but I’m not having a lot of luck finding a source for bulk, flat backed bases. Anyone tried something like this and have a suggestion?
You mean just the wood? Or you want cases already made of wood?
If just the wood, PG veneer or any non PG veneer ought to work… just cut it to size?
Or wait, you mean the plastic case part?
Welcome! You are in the right place, a lot of very clever people here.
I’m going to be only slightly helpful as I don’t really know the best/cheapest place to get them, but phone case blanks are to be had. I’ve just never made a real effort to find a good supplier. I think using those search terms (phone case blank) will be your best bet though.
This will motivate you though and give you hope.
Here’s a few I found with a quick search

So originally I just meant the plastic case part because it honestly never occurred to me that I might be able to purchase bulk cases with the wood already attached. The pre-constructed ones are worth considering, though I’m immediately concerned about the quality of the wood (or more likely wood-like substance) and the potential for fume issues.
Adding the word “wholesale” to the search has lead me down some more productive paths.
I’d still welcome additional resources and really appreciate everyone’s feedback so far.
