Butcher Block Conditioner - Safe to GF?

Hey all - I made a cutting board out of oak…and I put on layer of Butcher Block conditioner on it (mineral oil and natural waxes), but then I realized I should totally engrave it! I wish I hadn’t put the stuff on yet - Is it safe to GF?

Probably, if it’s very dry and a very thin layer. I would keep a really close watch on it in case it flames up a little too high, and if you see that happening, open the lid to stop the print.

It might burn a little darker than normal too.

I use mineral oil on all my slate before burning and haven’t had any issues. Other than the possibility of a little flare up like Jules mentioned, I wouldn’t worry about engraving either product.

The key difference here is the material. Some oil based fire on a piece of slate won’t matter in the least to the rock. But a wooden surface that’s oiled and waxed is going to be a lot more combustible. I’d go ahead and do it, but I’d watch it like a hawk while the print was running…
