Camera did not take picture...sporadic

For the last few weeks my GF has been sporadically giving me the error message “didn’t take a picture” but I can eventually get it to work. Sometimes it works at the start of the day or the message is cleared by turning on/off 1000x or opening/closing the cable tabs.
I do have a spare black cable. For those that had to replace their black cable, did your cable just quit working entirely? Or was it sporadic like this? I don’t want to replace the cable yet if it isn’t the issue.

@jbignami,
I’m suffering the same issue - the macine told me to replace the black cable so I’ve ordered one, then it starts working fine, then not (cable is weeks away as I’m in the UK and we have no spares support). It’s not necessarily the cable from what I can find out. Hoping we can get a solution.

Ugh! Sorry you’re dealing with this, too. Do you get the other error message that alignment changed after preview? I started getting both error messages at almost the same time.

The message that alignment changed is not an error message. It is a reminder that the camera view has adjusted. If you use the set focus tool prior to placing your artwork, you will not get the message.

But it’s not something that has happened in the 5 years of owning my GF. Just started happening the last few weeks.

It was implemented (in my opinion) because so many users were unfamiliar with the set focus tool and said things like, “why does my image jump after I click print?”. It was part of the recent upgrade.

Ah, I see!

Another woman on Facebook was having the issue sporadically and it was resolved by replacing the cable. Based on that I decided to replace it, I am back up and running. I hope you get your cable soon!

If your machine is an early one like mine, the cable is too short causing it to run against the frame when the lid is lifted to full opening. Later machines had a slightly longer cable. I’m discussing this with Glowforge currently.
Glad you got the issue fixed. It’s cost me £70 sterling to get a cable!
