I washed my wife’s Toyota RAV4, and learned that the design of the moon roof was never intended to be waterproof, it instead has a reservoir on the inside that collects water that comes in that should drain down into two straws, but if they get occluded with dirt then it overflows and pours down the headliner and soaks into the underlayment of the car. It took me a little bit of time to figure that out and in the interim the car started turning into mold city.
Using two of the types of fans that you would see at a supermarket trying to dry off a floor I was able to dry out the car and the underlayment over a three day stretch, then treated the mold with concrobium, vacuumed the car with the Dyson, discovered that there was still water in the underlayment by the fact that the Dyson shorted out, then used one of the fans to blow on the open canister of the Dyson for two days and that fixed that problem.
After the car was put back together it still had a unique cheesy aroma, so I had picked up some oil from a Bath and body Works oil diffuser after Christmas sale and thought I could leave one of those wallflower canisters just sitting upright in the car, but then it tipped over and it dissolved a little bit of plastic in the process, so I picked up a oil diffusing capybara from Amazon which is super cute, but I was afraid that it would roll around in the car so it needed a base, also to protect the car just in case the oil went straight through to the base.
Right after I completed this for my wife’s car, we picked up a marang fruit, which if you’ve never had it it tastes amazing, somewhat like vanilla pudding, however we had it in the car, then put it in the fridge and then discovered that it has property similar to a durian, and emitted a smell similar to gasoline and one week later the car still smells like gasoline and the fridge the ice everything smells like it, so we got activated charcoal for the car and for the fridge from the pet supply store, and now the capybara is sitting in my car. (because my wife is out of town)
The chain of events made perfect sense to me. I totally understand how you went from washing your wife’s car to the capybara. My time is similarly spent in all tasks.
Nice practical cut, and a great story! I’m sure somewhere in the user manual it says to clean those straws annually, or with an oil change, or whatever, but I had a Jeep too and had no idea!
Wow, that’s quite the story! I’m glad it had a happy ending and you were able to get your wife’s car dried out, the mold killed off and smelling better, the Dyson working again and were able to get the gasoline smell out of the car and the refrigerator. The very cute capybara is a nice and useful souvenir of the events.
weeeellll the capybara never reached my wife’s car because she’s out of town and the fridge is still pretty noxious but eventually before she gets back I will shift it into her space.
I think I need to wipe everything down in the fridge with some bleach wipes or something.
Well the capybara is absolutely adorable! Love, love, love the stand you made for it! I’d a shame that the car has such a poor design for the sunroof. Don’t they (the manufacturers) realize that there are things like car washes and rain, and that the roof is definitely going to get deluged with water at times? That’s something the consumer shouldn’t have to worry about. But thanks for sharing your story!
My son loves capybaras and I just got him a super cute one for Valentine’s Day. He was sitting here when i saw your post, so I read it out loud to him and we were both commiserating along with you throughout the story! That was quite a turn of events!
(Also, we are still catching up on jeopardy and we just watched the woman from Honolulu win the second chance, and she has been our favorite - we can’t believe that she didn’t win before!)
A capybara hot tub Time Machine, or the amazing fruit with the wicked aroma? (or a moldy 2019 Toyota RAV4 ha ha)
The diffuser works pretty well, I was pleasantly surprised. Initially when I received it I was a little annoyed because it already had peppermint oil in it, so it was a returned product and didn’t jam with the vanilla smell that I really wanted it to have, so I ordered another one and sent that one back after that one had shipped.
@trually I haven’t seen the lady from Honolulu on Jeopardy, that sounds fun. Today I took the blower fan out of the RAV4, and sprayed a air-conditioning cleaning solution over the evaporator, then took the blower cage and cleaned it with my toothbrush, note to self change the toothbrush head.
