A long time ago I started on a digitized version of the Columbus, OH skyline (my hometown, to which I’ve returned) and the original concept was HUGE so I added a ton of detail. But it wasn’t until I supplemented my Glowforge with an XCarve Pro that I was able to see a larger scale version come to life:
For reference, the whole box is about 2 feet wide. And my favorite part is that all the buildings have tabs on the bottom that simply slip into a grid. So it can easily be changed, and if I have a different type of setting I wanted to put there, I can easily do so.
At the same time, I tried to really push the limits of how SMALL I can make it.
I might want to try that again in Acrylic – the grain of the wood disguises some of the more minor details.
All of this led up to my holiday sale table with the local arts guild, which (I think, results pending) beat my sales last year.
