I got to it by copying and pasting the URL. Giphy doesn’t seem to want to let people download their GIFs; doesn’t Discourse try to store a local copy of image files, or something?

Yep. A few minutes after you post something containing a link to an image discourse goes and downloads a copy of it, then modifies your post to point at the copy.

Turns out giphy stores them as mp4s, or at least lets you access them directly as such.
