My personal opinion is that if you’re going to focus on one program, and don’t want to pay the Illustrator subscription, then you should probably make it Inkscape. There is a bigger overlap between Glowforge users and Inkscape users and you will get a lot of help from the community. It’s a very capable program, it just has a finicky and complicated user interface. It’s annoying when you’re trying to just do one thing, but once it becomes a regular tool, it’s worth the investment of time.
