Custom tassel years

Hello all,
I am interested in making custom graduation dates for tassels for my upcoming 40th reunion, what do you all think would be the best material to use.

I have had my glowforge for several years but have not used it much! That being said I am still very much a novice.

I am going to try to replicate out mascot and make key chains with tassels but need to year charm to add to them.
TIA for the help

Acrylic would definitely be my go-to for something like that. You can even get it in metallic-looks if your school colours used gold/silver.

You might get a bunch of good ideas digging through the catalog for “graduation” themed items

I was thinking the same however my school was red and white, and I don’t think they need to be that thick.

This is awesome!! So if I am seeing correctly whatever is engraved out ends up being white?
I have never seen acrylic like this!!

That’s exactly how the two tone works.

You can also buy acrylic that’s 1/16" so two layers are still only 1/8" thick.

There is a world of acrylics out there! I got my 1/16" from Cerulean Tides, and if you click that link you’ll see everything they carry in 1/16th. They are laser makers themselves so what they sell is also going to cut.
There aren’t PG settings for 1/16th, but folks here have that figured out  Every machine is slightly different, so you may have to adjust a tiny bit…but the nice thing about acrylic is it’s pretty darn standardized so the settings for one seem to work pretty much across the board!

I am slowly learning, and I do mean slowly, lol.
I am not sure I can ever figure out settings and that why I went with the glowforge because of the proofgrade material.
I just have to apply myself and take the time to make mistakes, lol!
I already placed and order for the red/white so I can make the key chain I was planning on painting, this will be much easier!!

There are definitely folks here who have their settings nailed down so they are absolutely perfect. I lean more on the PG settings - like for every piece of random plywood I use the PG Basswood Ply settings.

If, rarely, that doesn’t work. I up the power by 5 points until I get a good one, and then I hit the + and save that under a name like “ReStore Ply” (or something that will tell me exactly which piece(s) it’s for!)

Does that mean I need to mask more, or clean more - probably, but that’s fine by me

Of course, you can engrave the white side and have it come out red :slightly_smiling_face:
