Hello,
Due to a previous issue, the GF I’ve bought two months ago got replaced.
I’ve done my first lens cleaning on the new one, only to realise that there seems to be a defect on its lens.
Is that normal?
Is it embedded in the lens coating or some sticky particle burned on?
You might want to soak the lens in alcohol for a few hours to see if it will come off - don’t use an abrasive, your fingernail is soft enough not to scratch if the particulate is soaked first.
I wiped it softly with the zeiss lens wipe and while a bit of stuff was removed, the lens itself seems to be damaged (I.e. its surface is irregular where this spot is).
Edit : here’s how it looks after wiping it
Someone else (@jbmanning5?) had a similar issue and found it was removeable. It’s likely some bit of material blown up onto the lens that got burned in.
It might be a coating defect but that is pretty rare in the laser lens manufacturing world. Support will weigh in and if it’s not a bit that can be removed by soaking you’ll likely need a replacement lens. Although even if it doeas come off, my experience is that it probably will leave a permanent marker in the coating which does reduce the efficiency of the laser. I usually replace them in my other laser when that happens.
Fairly certain it will need replacement. Of course not my call. Support will respond.
Might want to check inside the head to make sure nothing is melted or otherwise an issue. Check the head mirror too. Don’t want to get a replacement lens to find out there are other issues.
Thanks for the info, I’ve contacted support.
FYI, when you posted here in Problems and Support, you opened a support ticket. If you also contacted them via email, that’s a second support ticket. You only need to do one or the other. Duplicates can slow things down.
Thanks for letting us know about this and posting those photos, @Tiax. I’m so sorry the lens arrived damaged. I see you already emailed us about this, and I’ll be following up there shortly. In the meantime, I’m going to close this thread.
