Diy pcb

Sometimes, because reasons, you might want to replace the motherboard inside an old remote control.

Some thin paperboard and a few measurements later and you can apply copper tape for the button contacts.

Insert wires from the back, solder, and you’re on your way.

A minor modification to the shell…

Some creative wiring…

And a win!

Slick hack.

Paperboard? Never would have thought to try that. It’s rigid enough?

That’s very impressive! At first I thought the first picture was the “after”, and I thought “that’s DIY??”

Now I’m having fun imagining what you’re using that for. A turtle with a neural implant, perhaps?

I love that people just keep coming up with unique ways to get a working PCB.

Back in the day, you could acid-etch one or get creative with a perfboard. That was about it.

Now, if you have a few days, you can order them for cheap.

If you have a CNC, you can custom-cut one.

You can 3d print something ready for tape or wire.

The list just goes on.

Anyway, congratulations on that mod.

Way above my pay grade! I would’ve just bought a new one rather than making one. Electronically inclined I am not.

Yes, paperboard, about 4mm thick, was rigid enough with some support built into the shell.

I was resurrecting an electronic bidet for which 90% of the functionality was provided by a missing remote that could no longer be purchased. The Roomba cleaning buttons turned out to map nicely, and the OLED plus navigation wheel made for a nice menu system.

Programming microcontrollers is ridiculously easy with AI these days! The bulk of the effort was jamming everything into that small area, thus the need for a very thin PCB.

It seems that is AI forte cause while I’ve had little to no luck with images my PC is becoming quite personalized with python and AutoHotkey scripts.
