Donation box for local German school

I was recently volunteered to make a new donation box for our German school to be used at this weekend’s May Fest.

Non-PG mahogany plywood sealed with brushed-on shellac.

I can just about read that. Does it open in the back,or the bottom?

It’s two open-top boxes nested, one up and one down, mounted on a flat base.

Very nice looking box. Is that 1/4" plywood?
Thank you for sharing.

It’s 5mm ply, so closer to 13/64.

I definitely can’t read it, but I think it’s the nicest donation box ever!

Well done. I appreciate the rounded corners on the base.

No good deed goes unpunished...

Despite having sent the entire Board a pdf of my design with dimensions, my wife overheard one BM tell another “I thought it would be bigger.” Grr…

I wonder if they thought it would be freeer

Well obviously you should have included a banana for scale.

That’s one reason I don’t do commissioned stuff - a lot of people can’t (won’t?) read a drawing and translate it into something that they can relate to. So they can’t give constructive commentary during design. But after the build they can relate to the physical object and point to things they’d want changed. Since I apparently can’t explain/document the possible with clarity, I avoid the potential for disappointment by not engaging in the game.

Sorry they couldn’t figure out what you were proposing before you spent so much time on producing a really nice piece.

The astounding part was that last year they had a beat-up cardboard box… ¯\(ツ)

Looks lovely and eminently functional - and pooh on the critics!
