Earliest International Estimate?

Hey folks, I ordered fairly late in the pre-order campaign so my date is a little ways off yet (30th March currently). I was wondering who has a really early international shipping estimate so we can use that as a bit of a gauge as to how things are shaping up?

I think that would be @espen_svebak.

Hey Espen, which Country and when did you Order ?

Just got another delay, new date is now Mar 19, 2018. Another month pushback, maybe certifications isn’t quite where they are supposed to be yet. I can honestly say that I have never been so frustrated by a company before.

My order date was: 2015-09-24

I guess they don’t have Comcast in Norway.

That is weird. My date to the UK just moved a day forward, to Feb 26. The air filter just moved from May 27 to June 24, what a joke.

Hi, I’m also UK and my Pro date moved to 5 April (5 whole days earlier) but filter date moved 2 months from 27 May to 28 July!! I ordered 21 Nov 2015 originally. When did you order?

here. Air Filter was pushed back.

Mine was pushed up a week from May 3 to April 25. 8 days ain’t bad. I am in Amsterdam, NL. Curious if any other EU Glowfolk saw a shift. That could be good news.

I ordered a pro and filter early on the 27th Sept 2015 (day 4).

Yeh mine just got bumped up by two days, now the 28th March. If @espen_svebak 's order went back to a similar date but ours came forwards I’m naively hopeful that this means they’ve got a more solid estimate.

Or… They’re building up a backlog of instruments ready to ship internationally but the actual international ship date has moved back i.e. once they get approval they can ship more and ship them faster but the date they can ship from moved back another month

Would be great if @dan was just open about what was actually going on.

It’s frustrating when you ordered so early when people in the US order a Pro in January 2017 and already have theirs.

Yes, whenever I have been responsible for designing a product for international markets I started with the approval requirements and designed it to meet all of them. I then got it tested and approved at the preproduction stage, before we went into volume production.

I don’t think GF even started looking at the requirements until after they were well into production. That is when they suddenly dropped a load of countries and now we ware waiting for design changes as the original would not pass CE. For example I don’t think the exposed interlock link on the pro would pass ESD and RF immunity requirements.

Yeh, it definitely hurts that this is the case. If Glowforge was a small operation with a maker style setup then I’d have some sympathy with the lack of preparation with regards to what must feel like a bewildering set of international regulations and certifications. GF have a massive pile of VC backing though, and with that must come a lot of specialist advice and experience (and surely oversight?) on such matters. It mystifies me that they weren’t well ahead of the game in this regard. I can only think that they thought they had it well under control and thought they understood the requirements, but received bad advice which tripped them up too far down the line to not cost them a lot of time. If that’s the case, I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be.

Still, I do have confidence that GF will try and do the right thing. I also have confidence that this machine will be better value for money than anything I can currently find on the market. I’m sure the painful lessons will be learned internally and they’ll be a better business for it in the end. After all, I’d have pulled my money out if I didn’t think they could do it.

Come on @dan and team, I’m rooting for you now!

Apparently the ‘International’ Pro and Basic models will differ from the ones made and delivered in the US. However these differences won’t be clarified by Glowforge.
On another note, does anyone know whether there will be a silver tube filter sent as standard whether you’ve ordered the filter unit or not? I don’t plan on waiting until my filter unit is ready to ship both together so this would be the only alternative in the interim.

All machines come with the silver hose for outside venting. It isn’t a filter.
