We have a customer who would like a set of pens engraved. I tracked down the material that was used on them which is Aluminum/Rubber Finish. I’ve not found anything online that’s very helpful. Has anyone had any experience engraving something like this? What settings did you use?
A 40 watt laser cannot mark metal without some sort of additive. People have used everything from mustard to brand name Ceremark. The majority of tests have been run on steel, so you’re going to have to run tests. Here’s a simple search that may prove helpful.

Rubber will engrave - though the markings are likely to clean/rub off so you’ll want to set them somehow - and if the rubber is where one holds the pen I’d avoid that area entirely.
