I have a round door hanger that I want to engrave this is over the 1/4 inch thickness so I know I need to remove the honeycomb grate but do I need to put something under it to lift it so it would be the same height as the grate would be. Also should I stain the wood prior to engraving it. The material is plywood and I am using the Aura. Thank you for any help

You must remove the tray for items over 1/4" thick. The surface to be engraved must be within the 1/4" focus range so you may need to elevate the door hanger. The floor of the Aura/Spark is 3/4" from the lens, so if your door hanger is 1/2" thick, you would want to put something about 1/8" under it.
