I have the chance to purchase a Glowforge that is at an estate sale. If I don’t have a complete transfer bill of sale will I be able to use it? (It was never used)
Only if support is willing to transfer it to your email address. Typically the original purchaser has to contact support to ensure it wasn’t stolen.
Thanks for the quick answer. I believe the original owner has died and there is a company conducting an estate sale. Hopefully a receipt from the estate sale will work.
Wow this is some sort of first on the forum. Good score.
Mind telling us what model and price you got? This is a really unique sale as far as I’ve seen.
Also welcome to the forum, we really like new users here. I’m sure you’ll have all kinds of questions as you get it up and running, just ask away!
Hi there, and welcome to the forum! I hope your purchase goes well, if it goes through. i’d recommend going to the Support link at the top of the page, then following the Manage link to…? I don’t know what else, but that’s where I’d start. Also, there’s a ‘chat’ function button at the bottom right.
Just enough clues to get you started on your journey, I hope. Use an interesting, not generic, first sentence; get their attention. Good luck!
The sale closes at 2:00 today. It’s a Glowforge Pro with a filter. It has never been used and I offered $1000. If it is still available in an hour I will purchase. It was going for 3000 yesterday and 2000 today. I have a Glowforge Plus that is a couple years old. I don’t need another Glowforge but this may be too good to pass up.
Wow good luck that would be an amazing deal.
Is it possible Glowforge will not allow me to use it if I don’t have original paperwork or transfer from the original owner. I’m afraid to purchase if I can’t use it.
At that price you could sell it for parts and probably make money. It may not be a big risk overall?
I would immediately get an email to Support as soon as possible with all the links etc. If cheap enough it could be worth it as parts even. They can make decisions based on circumstances.
plus the new filter is $1300, so you’re already ahead of the game there at $1k.
Here is the official word: https://support.glowforge.com/hc/en-us/search?utf8=✓&query=transfer+ownership
Thanks for all the replies. I did purchase the Glowforge Pro with the filter and its obviously never been used. Unfortunately the owner passed away suddenly in March. There can’t be a release from the owner so hopefully there will be an understanding that it isn’t the usual type of sale.
So, did you get it?
did they take your $1k offer?
I did!!
Yes, in that range.
If it was never used, I think you will be able to just set it up as new.
not sure if that’s right? the machine is tied to the email that purchased it. i remember early on a few people having issues with buying a GF as a gift and struggling to transfer ownership (this, of course, was before they published the transfer of ownership info and made it more transparent like it is now).
but if it was never unboxed and connected and isn’t on a “fell off the back of a truck” list, GF may be more amenable to changing ownership once they know the story.
It was completely out of box, I do not have email. His family is from Switzerland and he lived alone from what I gather. He was an amazing photographer and died in March from a power outage and ended up dying from asphyxia from a kerosene heater. The more I find out the more unfortunate I realize this is. But it would be unfortunate if Glowforge decides it’s not possible to hook this machine up and allow it to run. It is not stolen, just never able to be used.
