Exporting My Designs on Aura

Hi. My name’s Lisa. I have a new to me Aura. i only have a few days left of the trial so i’d like the get my files dl’ed to my computer in case they disappear when the trial runs out. I get the following message when I try to export one of my designs.

“Design has manual settings. To make it easy to re-load, save your manual settings in your Materials Library before you export this design”. When i click ‘Continue” nothing happens.

I used 20 lb copy paper settings (GF Proof) for 67lb recollections cardstock and it cut fine. i didn’t have any other custom settings on the design. just for fun i opened the design again and made up test settings in case there was something i couldn’t see and it still won’t export when i click export again. I have been able to export some of the others so i don’t get what’s wrong or different. i designed on scal pro 5 as with most other files. Would appreciate any insight. Cheers

Hello! Are the designs you are attempting to export from the catalog? If so, this will not export or download to your computer. Only additions to those files, like if you added your own text or graphics, will be exported. With catalog designs, you are purchasing the right to use them, not the actual design itself. I’m not sure which ones disappear after the trial ends, but if you choose not to continue with premium, you have the option to purchase the use of individual files. I believe in the catalog, there are a couple of glowforge produced files that were downloadable, but i think those were special cases.

You would be able to export any graphics, shapes, magic canvas, or text that you produced using the premium features without issue.

If what you’re trying to export is not a catalog item at all, I apologize for the earlier explanation. I usually save manual settings in my material library, which is different than the list of functions included in the export file.

Thanks for the reply. No, they’re all my designs. I understand you can only save those in the catalog on the cloud if you continue the subscription.

I tried other files (my own). Now i don’t get any response at all when i click on “Export”. The screen is exactly the same as it was and it doesn’t download my file. stumped. I

should say, i design on SCAL Pro 5 (Sure Cuts A Lot Software). Save as SVG format. I uploaded the original file to the GF and needed to tweak size etc and they cut fine. Now i can’t dl with the saved dimensions etc.

Hope that makes sense. lol

I know this sounds obvious, but did you check your downloads folder on your computer? When I hit export, nothing changes on my screen, but the file is in downloads. It’s just really fast.

I would check the downloads section of your browser, if nothing is there, then ( i was going to say clear the cache and try again, but you might get logged out of everything, so that might be annoying) try a different browser.

Since these are your files, they should stay there as long as you opened them recently, even when your trial expires. So you still have a little time, because if this doesn’t work, you may need to contact support and see if something is wrong.

Welcome to the forum.

The good news is that files you have designed will not disappear from your Dashboard unless you don’t open them for 30 days. As for the export function not working on some files but working on others, we need to figure out what is different about the files that won’t export. As you know, clicking “continue” should trigger the download and usually does. Also, you state “I designed on scal pro 5”. What is that?

It’s a software i never heard of:

Sure Cuts A Lot Software

But I’ll be the first to admit i don’t know much outside of inkscape, the big vendors, and cuttle.xyz.

Thanks for the explanation. The next question is, why is there a need to export a design that originated outside of the interface? Presumably the file already exists on the computer from which it was uploaded.

FWIW, OP said they made changes in the GFUI and wanted to retain those.

Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) is mainly for plotting cutters (e.g., Cricut machines). It is third-party software that can output to a number of different machines directly (or via a print driver). It is useful for having a standard interface for different machines, if one wants to avoid the manufacturer’s software for some reason, etc.

For example, I switched to using it for my Bosskut Gazelle so that I could run something natively on the MacBook in the studio instead of on a Windows VM. The original Bosskut software is dongleware (requires a USB security key), which is another reason to prefer SCAL.

Like most plotting cutter software, SCAL includes a quirky, limited vector editor.
