I second the recommendation to stock up on materials. I got the family-size box from Amazon and I also picked this roll of masking. At $1.50 per square foot, I really don’t mind making all kinds of mistakes and throwaway junk.

Just a note for Canadians related to importing plywood (“Other plywood, consisting solely of sheets of wood (other than bamboo), each ply not exceeding 6 mm thickness:”) from the US into Canada…
(a bit of paraphrasing here)
Large hardwood plywood panels with a least one outer ply of non-coniferous (maple, birch) used for wood flooring is duty free. Particleboard wood used for door jams is duty free.
Most other woods (ie- “Whether or not painted, edge or face worked, but not otherwise worked
or surface covered.” and various others) have about a 3-4% duty on them.
