Filter working?

New to Glowforge and wondering how do I know if the filter is working?!! Silly question I know but it seems so quiet!!!

First question would be - what laser do you have? If it’s the Aura/Spark with the attached filter…it’s not very quiet. About the level of a dishwasher or clothes dryer.

I imagine the Glowforge one is a similar volume, but I’ve never heard that one!

the biggest question would be - do you smell anything while you’re cutting? It does go into a sleep mode when it’s not actively doing anything, so then it’s completely quiet, but when you’re running a cut it should spin up in volume.

Good point, sorry!! I have the Aura and bought the additional filter unit.
It says it turns on automatically when plugged in and no on off button

Yeah, that’s the one that’s completely silent until you’re actively cutting something. Once you’re cutting you should hear it going (mostly the fan blades going around I imagine).

The first day I used it there was no noise and smoke (cutting wood) visible from the Aura but last night I did another wood project, no smoke and a noisy fan… Not sure what I did wrong but thanks for your reply xx
I’m sure there will be many more questions to follow!!

Sounds like it might be working! I’ve got a Spark, not an Aura, but I think the filter is the same. You can hear the “expected” sounds here. The filter doesn’t kick in until I press the white button.
