I really want to get photo engraving down… I need to work on my settings and enhancing the images. Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated! The portrait is a little too dark and the engraving in the dark areas is too deep. The other photo just needs to be clearer.

I haven’t done much engraving but I like those on the natural slices. 
As to the second photo engrave, the square picture on the round object distracts from the image. You may want to either remove the background, OR increase the overall size of the background and make it rounder and perhaps feather out the darkness to light (minimal engrave) near the edges

Lightening, sharpen a bunch and bumping the contrast way up improved my attempts.
