Fumes making me sick

Hi
I have an Aura. I have an online fan and a Hepa air filter. There is still fumes in the room. It is actually making me sick. I don’t know what to do? Anyone else have this problem of feeling sick?

Many are sensitive to fumes. Try working with different materials. Filters are a “last resort”, a laser burns stuff, and the resulting smoke and fumes should be exhausted outdoors.

No to the feeling sick, but i could just be used to it. Certain materials would give me headaches from the smell, like leather. But nothing was as bad as when we 3D printed. 3D printing with resin, that would give me migraines, even with air filters and purifiers. I needed all the windows open and fans blowing.

Just to be sure, your filter isn’t full is it? I’m not sure how the aura filters are, but i know the performance filter cartridges could fill up fast depending on the material. If you can, I’d crack a window and put a fan there, either to force the room air out, or possibly to bring outside air in.

I vent it out the window and the let fresh air in. I think I need a charcoal filter instead of a Hippa one. I can’t stay in the room. But have a camera to watch it on my phone.

I vent out the window

I’m confused - if you’re venting out of a window, you should have no fumes in the house. I have run extensive prints on my original machine on materials that generate a lot of smoke/debris, and never had any issue with smell. The machine is essentially under vacuum, and the hose carries the smoke outside.

I do not know if the aura is prone to this, as I do not have one, sorry.

I misread the first post, thought you had an inline filter. When i had issues of smells coming back into the room, it was because my windows had small gaps where they slid open and weren’t sealed properly. Or there was a blockage in the screen at the end of my exhaust hose. I had it against a screen so critters couldn’t crawl back in, but when its blocked with stickey smoke and debris, the air comes back in because it had no where to go.

More than a bit overkill for an Aura but I bought similar for more back before Glowforge sold filters and paid more I think for 500 cfm and this one has 800 cfm. At this point mine just sits by a wall and cleans all the air in the house.

A) what material what material are you cutting? Some produce much worse fumes than others, like acrylic versus paper.

B) there’s more to the laser cutter filters than HEPA, are you able to get the actual GF Aura filter? I have it and don’t have any problems with fumes. We Use it extensively in an office setting.

C) If you are venting outside, you need to make sure that entire set up is sealed very well so fumes don’t come back inside.

this simply isn’t true as a blanket statement. Filters work very well in some situations.

Well the only thing I can think of is that the smoke is coming back through the window. I’ll check to see if there is a blockage in the hose. There is still a lot of smoke then for such a small unit. I have an inline fan that draws the smoke outside. Also maybe I need to get an air purifier that has a charcoal filter. Thank you all for your help. Ive been trying to figure it out as I’ve been so sick.

If your inline fan is rated at lower CFM than the built-in fan (assuming the aura has one), then you are essentially blocking the airflow and forcing it back into the room.

Not all cheap fans are actually delivering the airflow they say, just like many flashlights or car bulbs don’t get anywhere near the “rated” lumens.

I got this window vent kit from Amazon. It looks like this exact one isn’t available, but they have other ones that are just as good. You have to look for the one that can accommodate the 4 inch hose.

FYI, plant-based resin has nearly zero smell. I use it 99% of the time for that reason.

At the time, for whatever reason, it wouldn’t ship to my home. It did it was unavailable to ship to my area.

I gave the printer to a friend when i moved, so when I’m back to looking at printers, I’ll see if they have that resin type available here.
