We have gotten a Glowforge for our library system back in December and only started using it more often within the last month or so. We have not ran into any issues during that short period of running except recently when one of the staff use engraving on some unauthorized wood that produced a lot of dust with the settings they were using for proof grade materials and the machine stopped firing the laser when they were part way through the project they were working on.
We followed the cleaning video instruction that Glowforge has posted (I think about 3 of us went through and did a clean of every part we knew that needed to be cleaned) and the laser still wasn’t working. The gantry for the tool head and the tool head itself are moving as they should but nothing is getting engraved/cut even when we checked the settings for the test projects to see if anything will work. Did some online searching and found it could possibly be one of two issues: The High Voltage Wire or the Power Supply (wire being the most common one I’m seeing).
Since the machine isn’t that old and should still be under warranty (Machine purchased in December 2025) is it an option to send the machine back to Glowforge for some sort of repair or would we have to go through a 3rd party for that? We still haven’t inspected the wire, but given the symptoms I’m mostly positive it might be that wire.
The only other thing I’m not sure about is when inspecting the machine for other causes, I noticed that a connection was loose near the circuit board on the lefthand side of the machine that I have no idea what connection that is supposed to be and if it might be related in some way. I didn’t set up the machine personally and I don’t know if someone else knocked it loose while cleaning or if it was already loose when we got it (or if it wasn’t seated properly to the board and got knocked loose some how). Anyone have ideas on this one?
