Hat's off to me

I was watching a Laser911 YouTube video and he was using the Lonestar Adhesives heat-adhesive leatherette(amazing stuff) which is vastly superior for engraving over leather, you don’t need to use masking and when done, you hit it with LA Awesome and the spew wipes off and no smell (and since it is not real leather you don’t damage it with the cleaner - available at Home Depot or Amazon). So I needed a use to try it, so got a 6-pack of cheap distressed denim hats on amazon, and cut a patch of the leatherette. I got inspired enough to get a Vevor hat press (I have made several hats this week), and basically engrave the patch (I tweaked the settings from the baseline - the thin leather wasn’t bad but tended to damage the surface when it went in the heat press so you got a ragged edge, basically you can go waaaay faster). I found 30 seconds at 300F in the press worked perfectly (some of the writing on the university logo is so small you can’t see it on the photo but you can read it in real life). Next I am going to try same patches with UV printing on the EufyMake since I have flexible ink now.

Of course once you start everyone wants one… “I hope you brought enough for everyone!”

The second patch is on the Eufymake with the flexible ink

Turned out great

What a fun project! Could I still do something like this if I don’t have a hat press?

Those look great! I’ve made a bunch of patches on the Eufy…they’re a lot of fun. Just make sure if you’re doing a texture the patch is secured to the bed…tape under the patch works. Good luck!
