I kept getting a lid open notice and I knew I needed to change the black strip so I did. Got all three of the clips in plugged it up and turned it on and the middle computer board started smoking…

that sounds like game over at that point. Almost certainly going to need to be shipped in for repair, but fingers crossed for you.
