House warming gift Glowforge style

Building signs as a hobby has become my thing. Count me in for any excuse to use the forge and power tools.

Wanted something unique, so I made this for a friend as a house warming gift.

Nice result.

Curious about a couple things:

What materials did you use?

What sort of finishes did you use?

Anything you’d do differently now that it’s done?

The sign is made from a couple types of woods.

  • Painted wood is birch
  • Natural woods are Walnut, Maple, and Oak

I used a mahogany stain for the letters and finished with a mineral oil and beeswax finish.

I’m pretty happy with the results. If I make another one I might purchase pre-weathered wood for the white areas.
