Huge difference!

I finally got brave enough to remove the unused internal exhaust fan from my GF Plus. It is long out of warranty, and I have used an external fan almost since I got it. I was getting constant overheating errors, waiting for it to cool so it would finish a print.

Now, with that absolutely filthy fan gone, I have so much better airflow! No more smoke filling my studio, and no more smoky smell in the house. It is like a brand new machine now! A 20 minute file actually takes 20 minutes because it doesn’t stop to cool off. I wish I had done this sooner!

Sorry for typos…curious kitten in my lap.

I really need to break down and do that. I run an external but have never gotten around to removing the internal.

Congratulations on getting it done.

Would love to do that but it’s so much more complicated with a Pro.

Exactly. Removing the cooling system just adds that much more friction so I’ve never bothered.

I was so happy after doing it. Welcome to the flip side

Not to mention that the fan is pretty beefy and would be great to use on some other project. Way to take the plunge!

Strange, I have a pro and I didn’t have an issue pulling out the internal fan. I did have to remove the glass, but other than that, I don’t recall anything more difficult than that. With my basic I was able to remove it without taking off the glass, but removing the glass was not bad at all.

Well, maybe I’ll look into it if I start to have issues. So far the internal fan doesn’t seem to be interfering.

I did it with my pro around the same time as fixing my lid. The hardest part to me was removing the glass (moderately finicky), the cooling system wasn’t bad.

That said, I can’t really tell a difference! I think my exhaust bends trump any improvement.
