Illustrator question about strokes aligned to the outside and GF

Hi all. I am trying to get my kerf to fit tighter. I am experimenting with alligning my strokes to the outside of my image. When I do this, though, they come into GF as a double line. Any ideas here?

I did a search and it seems that illustrator ignores stroke and always cut dead center? Ok… but why the double line?

Actually one of the things that used to crash the system was trying to use the stroke on either the inside or outside, instead of centered.

What you want to do with Illustrator is use Offset Path, then just delete the original.
