Incomplete Engravings

Hello.
For the past couple of months i have been experiencing problems engraving. BUT only on a birch tree disc that I cut myself. What i mean is that, I cut down a birch tree and then cut it into discs so I can make xmas ornaments. I normally just engrave some clipart on to them.
I set up 6 to 8 of them on the honeycomb, click set focus on a disc that I know is flat.
Line up my art and then press start. It will do only half or less of the artwork of only 1, but the machine will keep running, count down on the screen will keep counting down but nothing is engraving.

I did contact tech support and they want me to send machine back and buy a refurbished one for almost $2000.00. I am not financially able to do that.

Here is the crazy part. I just engraved 2 different cutting boards and made some other xmas decorations and I didn’t have any issues at all. All different types of engraving and some cutting with no problems. The only time this problems pops up is if I am using the birch wood discs

Any ideas??
Thanks for your time
Bernie

Sounds like you’ve ruled out issues with your machine itself, since it’s successful with other things. That leaves suspect, your material. My guess would be that there might be some type of occlusions in the woodgrain itself or that the pieces are not precisely flat or precisely the same thickness,
I think someone else more knowledgeably than me will chime in with some ideas.

Anytime you are unsure if the machine is faulty or it’s something else just try the gift of good measure on proofgrade. If that works the machine is fine and you can start looking at the file or your procedures.
I really don’t know why support would jump straight to having you get a refurbished unit if it clearly is still working. They obviously didn’t do any trouble shooting with you. That is horrible service.

If you cut them recently it’s possible they’ve got too much moisture in them. I’d be curious what happens if you slow the speed or raise the power. I’d just test on one that failed before though!

It sounds like your carriage fan is hitting the slices and either jamming or breaking something loose. There may also be a safety feature to quit blasting if the head does not move.
The outlet for the fan is far in the back of the carriage so you might not notice how much lower it is than the rest…

Even near 1/2 inch can cause a problem. You will need to shut the machine off and restart it, and if it can’t find proper alignment after that you may have broken or stripped the belt or drives.
