Inlaid Celtic Key Pattern Pins

I snuck in a little studio time this week and, made these inlaid pins.

Walnut in maple PG hardwood, sanded to 650 grit, wipe-on poly finish. Pin backing attached with wood glue.

12oz bottle of mead for scale, in case the bottle cap doesn’t convey it.

This was inspired by a Mastodon logo pin I knocked out in a few minutes on a recent Sunday in response to someone else’s post on Mastodon. I ended up making a handful of those out of some purpleheart ply and maple.

Saw those on Instagram and loved them.

If your mead is as good as your blood-orange marmalade, you’ve got quite a brew there!

It has been a hit with friends and family. The guy who runs the local brew supply twisted my arm to let him enter it in the state mead cup a couple times. So, I have a couple ribbons where I beat out local professional brewers. I made friends with someone in Oak Creek who tends an apple orchard and has a hydraulic cider press. I make an annual pilgrimage to get fresh juice for the mead.
