IPE Hardwood Claw pendant and leather string

Fun project inspired by something I saw online - Claw pendant made from scrap ipe hardwood flooring scraps - Leather string recycled from an old goodwill purse - I’m making the how-to video tonight.

Ipe was a tough wood to cut the one time I tried it. That was enough :slight_smile:

sharp table saw blade, not hard. how did you cut the long leather string that needs to be 36"

I’m impressed, and eagerly awaiting your video! I’ve got some Ipe scraps from our deck build but haven’t bothered to try them since I thought they were too tough. You can actually see sparkles of sand embedded in the wood. Can’t wait to see how you did it.

I meant with the laser. I was cutting 0.4” stock and it took many passes :slight_smile:

In the end it was a nice cut though.

You can make 100’ leather string with this…


It works great on anything floppy like plastic bottles too.
