Is there a way to run diagnostics?

My machine has been fine since I got it 2 years ago and then all of a sudden in the middle of a print it started making crazy load noises. it’s not the fans I keep them clean and it doesn’t make the noise when the laser isn’t firing

I don’t know of any diagnostic process. What kind of loud noises and have you removed the honeycomb tray and closely inspected all visible moving parts with the machine off? I think the Glowforge noises come either from fans, fan motors or stepper motors.

If you haven’t already, can you reach out to support at https://support.glowforge.com/hc/en-us and let them know the type loud noises you heard and what you were printing when this happened? We would love to help troubleshoot with you. Thank you!

Yes this, If you can record a video of it making the noise and then post it somewhere and link it here that might help!

thank you i reached out to support and was told after 2 hours to try doing a clean cycle on my fan. I just did this now and while doing the 2nd cycle with the electronic cleaner once of my fan blades flew off. Now I don’t know if it is safe to use my machine

Definitely not safe to run a fan with a broken blade, it’ll shake WAY too much!

Presuming you’re out of warranty and this is the fan on the back you can remove it entirely and get an external fan (I use this one) You have the advantage that it’ll both be way quieter, and you’ll no longer have to worry about getting in there to clean the fan in the back!

Yeah, Im definitely out of warranty. Bought it in 2020. I already run an inline fan. Do I have to do anything other than just unplug the broken fan and remove it?

There are four screws into the case, that you can get to without taking the top off - let me find the instructions

Ok. This is a really indepth instruction for removing the lid and then the fan - but I did it without removing the lid because I was scared to do so! I used an endoscope camera to see, and this picture shows you where the 4 are:

The bottom two are harder because those support pegs are there, and the one with the double circle is by far the hardest because you’re up against the wall too! (In the image they’d already removed that one.)

It took me about an hour total.

They sell tiny vise-grips that are at their best in that situation.
