Is this device really worth for the price? Do I need to keep it or return it?

Is it tripping the sensor or does it disrupt brushless motors? I think my fan actually stops when magnets are involved, judging by smoke patterns.

Either way, it flips the GF out.

The magnet will disrupt the motor speed sensor since it likely uses a Hall Effect sensor. The strong magnetic field will overpower the winding fields that the Hall effect sensor reacts to and throw off the reading.

Also affects the fan itself. Saw my fan come to a complete stop, twice, as it passed over a magnet.

Probably, but the end result is the same. Also, it doesn’t explain the focusing behavior, so presumably something else going on.
