Issues with consistency

I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas on what might be happening here.
I had a Glowforge that I was using to cut and engrave a lot of material from JDS industries.
Mostly making trophy plates. Never had issues with the quality of the engraving.
That machine needed to be sent back and they sent me a refurb.
Finally got it set up and did several sheets of that same material with my saved settings.
Then i did a sheet and the quality of the engraving was BAD.
I assumed I just missed something while cleaning, but now the bad quality has been consistent, even after cleaning and trying several different settings.
Could it be a focus issue? or something else.
Just looking for some others’ thought in case I am missing something

Can you be more specific about what qualifies as bad? Are the engraves wobbly? Are they inconsistent depth? Are they poorer on one part of the bed compared to another part?

So, it’s a basic arial font that’s being engraved. usually the letters are very clean, with crisp outer edges, but now I can’t seem to get the edges as smooth

Can you post images? I would check the wheels on the carriage for cracks.

I’ve had that happen before after removing my carriage plate to clean the air assist fan. If the belt tension is wrong, the engraves came out as if I had dropped the LPI a lot – I imagine something was slipping on each pass perhaps. Anyway, I adjusted the tension until it worked normally again. You can avoid wasting any of your expensive JDS materials by testing on some cheap wood/MDF/cardboard until it looks right again. Hope it’s something easy like this that can be fixed at home.

I checked the wheels and tension. seem ok.
First print this morning looks beautiful.
I don’t really think i did anything, but it’s back to the way it was.
