Laser skips

I have an Aura glow forge which I just got , when cutting out an item I sometimes get skipping with the laser when I do use a wood that has no scan bar on it. The wood that i am using is Med Bass wood and am doing my own design. Thanks for any help this is all new to me trial and error I guess.

That could be due to residue buildup on the rails, that happens fast. I wipe mine with an alcohol-moistened rag between every print.
The lack of a scan code has no effect on the actual function of the machine.

Do mean areas where it doesn’t cut through - or that the laser itself jumps?

If it’s the former the wood might have voids or glue that the laser can’t cut through. Can you say where you got this basswood ply? Is it somewhere that says it’s laser compatible?
