Laser Tube not lit

So my laser tube is not lit, the engrave head is just passing over the item to be engraved and doing absolutely nothing. does anyone have any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

It’s quite possible you may need a new one. Tubes do eventually wear out and need replacing. GF used to offer a tube replacement for about $500 including shipping, but I don’t think they do that anymore. I have read that you need to send in the machine for a refurb. It may also be the power supply and if so, you will need to send it in for repair as well.

The expected lifespan was just a few years, so your tube has likely just reached it’s expiration.

Contact support. They will validate the situation, and provide options.

Just check the obvious first. A lot of times this is caused by accidentally having the power on its lowest setting.

I’ve made exactly the mistake that Chris1 pointed to. So, yes, double-check.

Also, on the most recent engrave that I ran, I cleaned all of the critical parts in the Glowforge, but not the laser tube glass cover. Dust obscured the “flashing of the CO2 laser” enough that I thought that the laser had failed. After I realized, I cleaned the entire interior (within reason), including the glass laser tube protector. And, sure enough, I saw the light.
