Leather Messenger bag: Biggest project yet!

So recently I made my wife a bigger version of the medicine bag I had made for myself 2 years ago. Since then my needs have evolved so I started looking at options.

Boy oh boy has this been a handful already! Lots of moving parts, lots of cleanup after lasering and I will have to manually cut the flap trim because it’s far too long for the laser to cut. I’ve had a few set backs but I finally got the top left pocket completed!

Fancy!

For the extra long strap, there’s a belt cutting jig in here somewhere…but cutting by hand might just be simpler!

*It’s actually a leather engraving jig, but I bet it could be used as a cutting jig!

This looks really nice. I made my son and his wife a leather backpack when they got married. It was a lot of work but had a lot of engraving on it. This looks classy!

Can’t wait to see! Also - that pattern looks like the IKEA Skadis hole pattern - is that on purpose, and is it intended to be functional like the MOLLE system? Or just looking cool? Because it looks very cool!

I’m honestly not sure. The original pattern is from Creative awl, they tend to do random stuff like that to fit a vibe. From the instructions video, his wife is the one doing this particular bag and she did a dye job that looked pretty ragged/beatup/end of the world. Personally I don’t really care for them but also didn’t feel like going back through and editing all the smaller parts like I did with the main section. Additionally there’s a few steps I’m gonna throw my own spin on, like instead of using a zipper, I’m gonna attach snaps. That suites my style more and honestly I don’t like how the zipper looks in the assembly video.

Gotcha - love it man, seriously! Well the option exists if you do want to attach other things to the bag w/ that setup :slightly_smiling_face:
