Leather Napkin Rings

A couple days before Thanksgiving my wife mentioned she didn’t have any napkin rings for our holiday table setting. In an effort to be helpful, I blurted out “Oh, I can make you something!”

Something in leather immediately came to mind. So, with a hard deadline, I spent the afternoon designing something in Illustrator we both liked. Then I ‘forged some acrylic stamps to emboss the leather

Cut out the napkin rings themselves from some chestnut Wickett and Craig leather I had laying about. Soaked them in water and pressed them with the stamps.

After they dried I used some black Feibings antiquing paste to add a little contrast to the embossing. A corset stitch to close the loop……

And Viola! Just in time.

I need to try making stamps again. My first ones didn’t turn out so well. But those napkin rings look lovely!

That is not at all what I thought I’d see when I clicked on the title. It’s orders of magnitude better! The embossing is just so impressive.
